Certain friends have a way of setting up residence in us. They march into some barren room of our heart and hang cheery curtains, scatter soft rugs, dot the walls with framed prints of tender and whimsical moments, then set about building a cozy fire beside two (sink-back-and-stay-awhile) chairs. ABC's of CPR
A airway- Open airway
- Head tilt & chin lift
B breathing
- Maintain open airway
- Look, listen and feel
- If no normal breathing, give two 1 second breaths
C compressions
- Immediately begin providing chest compressions and ventilations
(Please note that these steps should be used with proper training.)
I recently took the American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid program. It was very informative. If you have not taken a CPR First Aid class, I highly recommend taking one. The certification class took about five hours and was well worth the time. Click here for AHA class finder, also check out your local YMCA.
